Leeuwin Estate
Denis Horgan the owner of Leeuwin Estate bought a plumbing business based in Perth Western Australia; along with the purchase a winery was included. He sold the plumbing business some years later for the same amount that he bought the whole lot for and continued with the wine business.
This was the start of questionably the best vineyard in Western Australia. Their Chardonnay is acknowledging as one of the best in Australia and is highly regarded worldwide.
The Margaret River wine region is situated about four hours south of the city of Perth in Western Australia. The original land was Karri trees and scrub, which had to be cleared before the vines could be planted. This was in 1975 since then the reputation has grown.
As with most Australian wineries visitors are especially welcome. At Leeuwin a first class restaurant serves wonderful fresh meals beautifully presented in a relaxing environment. Concerts are arranged in the grounds every year with pop/modern music alternating annually with classical.
