Dom de Montmarins

Languedoc

Domaine de Montmarin was once a royal estate and covers 350 hectares. It was acquired by one Nicolas Sarret, direct ancestor of the present owner, Paul de Sarret de Bertier, in 1488. Paul de Bertier was among the first growers in the south of France to experiment with the more unusual white varieties, such as Marsanne and Roussanne and Sauvignon Blanc. Paul’s son, Philippe, who has run the estate for the past fifteen years has continued to place great importance on these varieties.

The vineyard itself is just over 100 hectares of vines planted along the low hills between Cap d’Agde and Béziers facing south towards the Mediterranean.

The vineyard has good soil with a mixture of stony clay and limestone. It benefits from its southern exposure and proximity to the sea, which keeps it cool in summer and relatively warm in winter.
