As the name implies the De Bortoli family originated in Italy. Over a hundred years ago Vittorio de Bortoli arrived in Australia with vines and his knowledge of making wines.
His son Deen established there first winery at Bilbul in New South Wales in 1928 and by 1936 they had 20 vats holding 25,000 gallons. Deen died in October 2003 aged 67. Currently the company is run by Darren (MD), Kevin, Victor, Leanne and her husband Stephen Webber.
Their most succesful wine is Noble One made in Bilbul in the Riverina District. It is made from botrytis semillon and has won many awards around the world.To date it has one over 100 Trophies,335 Gold medals and 113 International awards. It issaid "to be arguably the best sweet semillon outside Bordeaux"
