I have always had a special place for Laurent- Perrier Champagne, for it was here at their offices in Tours sur Marne that I first started in the wine trade. It was 1969 and I was 17 years old.
The house was established in 1812. In 1939 it was bought by Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt, who ran the business throughout the Second World War. Her son, Bernard de Nonancourt an army sergeant, and his tank men broke into Hitler's wine cave near the "Eagle's Nest" in the Bavarian Alps. and discovered half a million bottles of fine French wine. On his return from the War he took over Laurent-Perrier. It is now the largest privately owned champagne house.
Of all the wines they produce the best has to be the Laurent Perrier Rose. It is possible the only Rose champagne to be produced with 'saignee' method
