This is one of the best houses in the Southern Rhone. Pierre Perrin, the wine-maker, is passionate about his wines. He took over the making of the wines in 1996 when he ws only 24 years old.
He is very keen to preserve tradition whilst continuing to investigate new methods of wine making and more importantly the growing of the wines.Most of the vineyards are organic and the use of chemicals frowned upon,
The grapes are havested and vinified seperately. In the spring the blending is done.The 'grand vin' Chateau Beaucastel is a blend of 13 different red grapes including Syrah and Cinsault but the vast majority is Mouvedre and Grenache. These two varieties give the finished wine richness and complexity plus the ability to age. In fact Chateau Beaucastel is at its best from 10 years onwards.
The Coudelet de Beaucastel is unique is own right but has similar characteristics as the Chateau wine. These wines though are much more approachable when young.
Both the whites are lively clean and very expressive of the region. It is best not to serve them too chilled as the flavours become stilted.
The wines from Perrin et Fils are inexpensive and represent the best of the southern rhone. The grapes come from either vineyards that the Perrin family own or have day to day control over. They offer excellent value for money.
La Vieille Ferme (the old farm) is a lovely wine to drink on it's own and to serve at receptions and parties. We stock it in magnums which gives the 'wow'factor when serving.
