The wines for this exceptional wine were planted in 2001 at over 300 feet above sea level. This ensures that the nighttime temperatures at the height of summer allow the vines to cool.
The 2005 vintage was very short; an exceptional dry winter (2004) was followed early season rains, which caused some disease. The grapes though were quite healthy when picked in February 2005. This is a little later than normal. Thirty percent of the crop was fermented in 300litre French oak barrels and kept on its lees for 7 months.
