Mount Cass
The Waipara Valley is situated 30-45 minutes drive north of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand.
Mount Cass was one of first three commercial vineyards planted in the Waipara Valley in 1982 and is now owned and run by Chris and Carol Parker and their family. And at harvest time with a lot of friends. It is a small boutique winery which lavishes lots of care in vineyards to ensure a purity of fruit.
The Mount Cass Vineyard takes its name from the prominent landmark of Mt. Cass that rises to over 500 metres above sea level. This mountain provides protection from the Pacific Oceans easterly breezes, as the vineyards are tucked under its lee.
The soil on the Mt. Cass Road vineyards is free draining. The yields are low, the grapes are optionally ripened, of very high quality, which are expressed in the flavoursome and very balanced wines.
The 20-hectare vineyards are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, and Pinotage.
